Abstract

Hydroponics is a method of cultivating plants that does not use soil, relying heavily on water quality and the availability of appropriate nutrients. Manual monitoring of hydroponic system maintenance is not yet efficient because it requires a person's presence periodically in the hydroponic garden to monitor water quality and the availability of nutrient content. This paper proposes a form of online monitoring system design for hydroponic garden maintenance based on the Internet of Things (IoT) using a solar-powered ESP32 microcontroller. This system uses a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) sensor to monitor water quality, a DS18B20 temperature sensor to monitor water temperature, a DHT11 sensor to monitor environmental humidity, and an ultrasonic sensor to monitor water level. Data from the sensors are transmitted to the Blynk application online, allowing users to monitor via smartphone remotely. This system automatically turns on the nutrient and water pumps based on pre-set parameter values. Test results show that the hydroponic plant maintenance monitoring system via the Internet of Things connected to a smartphone successfully operates according to the pre-set design scenario.
