Abstract

The quality of rice, a strategic commodity in Indonesia, is highly influenced by the temperature and humidity of its storage warehouse. Inefficient manual monitoring in production centers like Pringsewu, Lampung, can lead to quality degradation and threaten food security. This research aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system to maintain rice warehouse conditions automatically, accurately, and remotely. Using the prototyping method, the system was built with a NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller, a DHT22 sensor for temperature and humidity, and a DS18B20 for high-precision temperature validation. Data is displayed locally on an I2C LCD, automatically logged to Google Sheets, and visualized in real-time via the Blynk app. The system also features an automatic response, using a relay module to activate a cooling fan when the temperature reaches ≥30°C or humidity ≥80% RH. The result is a reliable functional prototype capable of providing accurate data, sending notifications, and performing corrective actions automatically. This system is expected to be a cost-effective and appropriate technological solution for small-scale warehouse managers to minimize post-harvest losses and maintain rice quality.
